Blast from the Past

The Salmastrelli Family (of New Jersey)

This picture was taken around 1923 before Aunt Gloria was born (in 1931). My maternal great grandparents, Primo and Leonilda, are seated. The three young men across the back are (L to R) Uncle Geno; my grandfather, Harvey; and Uncle John. To Primo's right is Uncle Delmo. To Leonilda's left is Aunt Kate with Uncle Richard in front of her. Uncle Bruno is sitting on the stool.

Pam's mother's mother, Emma Salmastrelli, Trenton, N.J. (1914-2001)

This was Gramzie's favorite picture of the two of us. Taken at her house in 1974.  Celebrating my 7th birthday at Gramzie's house. It was customary for Terry and I to have a lit sparkler on our birthday cakes.

Pam's father's father, Al Pezzola (Pizzulo), Bristol, Pa. (1919-2001)

Camp Shelby, Mississippi. Gramps is in the front, kneeling, smoking a pipe. He looks like the leader of the pack.

Al Pezzola. This picture was taken February 9, 1943.

I just recently learned an interesting fact about Grandpop Pezzola's participation in World War II. His company was practicing climbing down a net from the battleship to awaiting boats in preparation for storming the beaches at Normandy. While doing this, he fell and broke his shoulder. Because of his injury he was sent to the hospital and missed D-Day. Everyone in his company was killed. My dad told me this story and it gave me the chills. Grandpop was only engaged to my grandmother Rose at the time, so if he hadn't had that fall I might never have been born.
