Pam's Pregnancy Journal

11/23/01 (37 Weeks)

Things are going good. At my prenatal checkup last week, the doctor thought that the baby might be in a breech position, so he gave me an ultrasound just to be sure. He felt something round and hard in the middle of my stomach but it turned out to be the baby's hiney. He thought the same thing that Jason and I did months ago. This was the first time I had seen this doctor (he was filling in for my usual doctor who's on vacation) so he didn't know that my usual doctor had already determined it was the butt, not the head. I didn't volunteer this information though because I wanted the ultrasound! Plus I wanted to be sure too. The ultrasound wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be. Because he's so big now, it's nearly impossible to distinguish his features in the picture. I saw the back of his head and his kidneys, but only because the doctor pointed them out. He'll be here in the flesh though soon enough!!!

11/5/01 (35 Weeks) Current Cravings: Anything Chocolate

I'm getting more uncomfortable now that it's getting down to the wire. I can't see my feet anymore! Overall, I still feel great though. A few days ago I felt the baby hiccup for the first time. It feels like a little heartbeat for about a minute or two and then it goes away. I had a checkup up last week and everything was fine. He's still head-down and his heartbeat sounded great. Jason and I finished our Lamaze classes a few weeks ago; hopefully we'll remember everything when labor time comes! Hee-hoo, hee-hoo, hee-hoo...

10/7/01 (31 Weeks) Current Cravings: Snickers bars

Had my monthly check up this week. Everything is good. Doc said the baby is head down. So it's his little feet and hiney that I've been feeling! My dreams are getting *really* weird. The other night I dreamed that my stomach was so stretched out that it became translucent and you could see the baby clear as day. In the dream I said to my mom, "Hey mom, come quick, you can see his eyes! They're brown!"

9/21/01 (28 Weeks) Current Cravings: None actually

The other night I had my first dream about the baby. All I remember is that he was lying on the living room chair next to my dad. His eyes followed me across the room; they were blue. He was adorable.

It's amazing to feel him move now that's he's bigger. Before, I used to feel little kicks and jabs. Now I can feel his entire body roll over. The other night I felt his head --- at least that's what I thought it was --- it was round and pretty solid. Jason thought it was the head too.

8/27/01 (25 Weeks) Current Cravings: Pizza, Ginger Ale, Vanilla Cream Cookies

I had my monthly prenatal checkup on Thursday. Everything is fine. I gained 4 pounds since last month. I got to hear his heartbeat again, which is always nice. I'm just starting to get back pain now, both lower and upper.  I read that for every 10 lbs. of weight that's added to your stomach, it puts an extra 100 lbs. of pressure on your back. That's incredible. I'm going to start shopping soon for one of those belly bras just to give my back some extra support. I still have three months of growing to do.

8/20/01 (24 Weeks) Current Cravings: Frozen Yogurt, French Fries

It's so wonderful being pregnant. I'm now at the point where people are noticing. The other day a grocery clerk asked me when I was due. Wahoo! First person to notice. Up until now I wish I had a sign to wear so that people knew that my protruding abdomen is due to pregnancy, not beer consumption! I started wearing maternity pants at four months, but it was pretty hard to tell I was pregnant then. Now I have a more rounded look, which makes it more obvious. Today I went to my exercise class as usual. I've been really lucky in that I can still do all my usual activities. I felt my first kicks when I was only 16 weeks pregnant. He kicks pretty regularly now, especially after dinner. I never had morning sickness, but I did have a lot of nauseousness the first two months. Previous cravings include lemonade, vanilla ice cream, and BBQ potato chips. Gotta keep exercising!!!!!
