Jason returns from Turkey early!Back a few weeks earlier than expected, Jason arrived at Sea-Tac airport late Sunday night (10/15). He arrived with a handful of other members of squadron 142 to prepare for the entire squadron's arrival later this month. He's very happy to be home after having spent 10 weeks in southern Turkey during the hottest time of the year over there. Pam and Jason will be celebrating his return as well as their 5th wedding anniversary by taking a 10-day trip to Germany and Austria 11/18 through 11/28. We'll be taking lots of pictures, which I will be posting on the site sometime in December. Our itinerary includes Munich, Salzburg and Vienna, and sites to see include numerous Munich beer gardens and Bavaria's Neuschwanstein castle, the "Sound of Music" tour, Salzburg's underground saltmines and Hohensalzburg Fortress, and the Dachau concentration camp for a bit of WWII history. We'll be in Europe on Thanksgiving, so we'll make an attempt to toast the pilgrims with our Pilsner-filled steins! Unfortunately, we won't be home for the holidays this year due to our trip. |
Jason's parents come for a visit (July 2000) |

Danny and Sandy
Fassett from Langhorne, Pa., aka Jason's parental units, brought some beautiful, sunny
weather to the Pacific Northwest when they arrived on July 14th. Our first excursion was
to Victoria, B.C., which is a two-hour ferry ride from Anacortes. After two days in
Victoria, we headed back to Anacortes and packed up the Jeep for a camping adventure on
the Olympic Peninsula. To get there, we took the Port Townsend ferry from Anacortes, this
time only taking 30 minutes to cross the Sound. We visited the Hoh Rain Forest, Hurricane
Ridge, and Sol-Duc Hot Springs and Falls. For more on this story, see Pam's Travel Log on Victoria and Travel Log on Hoh Rain Forest. |

Pam and Jason visit Snoqualmie Falls (July 2000) |
|
To
celebrate Pam turning the big 3-0, we decided to take a trip to Snoqualmie Falls, which is
about 30 minutes east of Seattle. We stayed at the Salish Lodge & Spa and pampered
ourselves in a private hot tub and fireplace, listening to the gentle roar of the falls
from our window. We ate a nice, quite dinner at our hotel, with a beautiful view of the falls. Jason had grilled beef tenderloins and I had char, a fish that is a cross between salmon and trout. We both loved our food, but found the portions small, which I guess is typical for a French restaurant. For fans of the '80s TV show Twin Peaks, you may remember this lodge as "The Great Northern" and the falls as "White Tail Falls" on the show. |

The water at the base of the falls is freezing; my toes became numb within seconds of dipping them in. | This diner in nearby North Bend was a regular hangout for characters on Twin Peaks. A severe fire set by vandals destroyed the interior of the building only three days before we got there. The owner has said that he will rebuild it. It was known on the show as the "Double RR Diner." |
