June 2004
2005 will be a big year for weddings. Not only is Pam's cousin Allison set to marry fiancee Tim on July 16, but another cousin (and Allison's big sister), Jennifer, has just gotten engaged and plans to have a wedding "somewhere tropical" in late 2005. Her fiancee's name is Brian Proctor and they both live in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, near Boca Raton. Despite the warm locale, Jeni's engagement ring was nearly frozen when she got it. Apparently, Brian had to wait days to propose because Jeni was busy hanging out with her friends who were getting ready to move away. Tired of waiting, he put the ring in the freezer one night because he knew that she was going to eat ice cream. They've been together since 1998. |

Pam's parents, Elaine and Terry Pezzola, came all the way from PA to Anacortes for a week-long visit. It was the first time Terry got to meet Gianna, and it was love at first sight. Elaine got to meet her back in December. We scheduled their visit to coincide with Gianna's baptism (See Photos).
We spent the week enjoying the weather (except for one rainy day). We did a lot of shopping and walking around downtown Anacortes and Mount Vernon. One day we all went to the base so that Pam's dad could do the Prowler training simulator. Jason's co-worker "Tommy Boy," a Prowler pilot, sat next to Terry so he could talk him through the landings. Terry landed his first try on the runway successfully, which is a really difficult feat!
Jason took Terry on a few hikes around Anacortes and Deception Pass, while Pam and her mom (and the kids) did some further shopping. Mom-mom also got to visit Jayden's music class at the library.

"Who writes 'Marry Me' in the sand?," Pam's cousin Allison sarcastically asked her boyfriend, Tim, as they were walking on the beach in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Someone had spelled out the words using pieces of driftwood. Instead of answering her, he got down on one knee and handed her an engagement ring. She soon realized that it was not a freakish coincidence that they happened to stroll past those words in the sand, but a well planned proposal! The driftwood arrangement was done by Allison's cheerleading team (ages 10-14) while she was somewhere else with Tim. Allison said she was "completely and utterly surprised." Nice job, Tim!
Allison and Tim met in high school but were just friends for years. Then they both went to Temple University and Allison persuaded Tim to become a Temple cheerleader with her. They became cheering partners, and by the summer before their senior year, they were dating. Now after more than 2 1/2 years together, they are officially engaged. No wedding date has been set yet, but July 2005 is a possibility. Allison lives in Bristol, Pa., with her mom---Pam's, Aunt Carol.

Teacher Marilyn singing "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" |
Preschool already? Well,
it's really more of an extended playtime for 2- and 3-year-olds, but
without Mommy! Starting this week, Jayden will be attending the Serendipity School in Anacortes two days a week from 9-11:30. He'll get to play in both the indoor and outdoor play areas, do arts and crafts, listen to stories, and have a snack. He gets a little sad when I first leave him but within 5 minutes he starts to play. The teacher gives me a written report of everything he did while he was there, so I thought I'd keep track of it all. Read Jayden's Preschool Log Book...

Pam's brother, Terry, had all his dreams of playing ball for the majors come true when he spent a week at the Philadelphia Phillies Phantasy Camp in Clearwater, Florida. "It was the best time of my life," he said.
The Camp is a chance for anyone willing to shell out a few grand to suit up in a real Phillies uniform, practice and play ball like the real players do during spring training, and even get to rub elbows with some former players themselves! You have to be at least 30 years old to partake (I guess so that they don't get any serious contenders wanting to get discovered).
There were 133 guys participating in the camp, ranging in age from 30 to almost 70! The men were divided into teams, and about 20 former Phillies players acted as managers to each team. Former pitcher Tommy Greene and Bobby Wine were Terry's managers. Terry credits Tommy Greene for honing his pitching skills -- of all the players in the camp, Terry won the Cy Young award for best pitcher at the end-of-camp awards banquet! He even struck out fellow camp attender NBC meteorologist Doug Kammerer of Philly's Channel 10, who threw his helmet in disgust. Way to go, Ter! Speaking of which, having a local TV personality at the camp brought a lot of local news coverage. See Channel 10's coverage of the Camp.
Also helping make Terry famous was his own fan club "Terry's Cherries," founded by none other than his wife, Debi. Terry's longtime friend Jackie and her mom came to watch Terry (they only live an hour and a half away) and proudly wore their "Terry's Cherries" T-shirts too. The other players and managers got a kick out of it but Terry was fined $2 at Kangaroo Court for having his own fan club. At Kangaroo Court, players are fined for doing stupid things -- not knowing the count at bat, not finishing a beer, etc. -- and then the money they collect goes to charity.
Terry played short stop and pitcher while he was there. He hit an out-of-the-park home run during batting practice and almost had one during a game but it fell short of the fence and turned into a triple instead.
Terry will get the chance to reunite with his fellow camp players on August 24 when they are all invited to attend a Phillies game at the new Citizen's Bank Park stadium. They will also get the chance to walk onto the field before the game starts as their names are announced.
