Snoqualmie Falls

July 2000

To celebrate Pam turning the big 3-0, we decided to take a trip to Snoqualmie Falls, which is about 30 minutes east of Seattle. We stayed at the Salish Lodge & Spa and pampered ourselves in a private hot tub and fireplace, listening to the gentle roar of the falls from our window.

We ate a nice, quiet dinner at our hotel, with a beautiful view of the falls. Jason had grilled beef tenderloins and I had char, a cross between salmon and trout. We both loved our food, but found the portions small, which I guess is typical for a French restaurant.

Salish Lodge overlooking Snoqualmie Falls. For fans of the '80s TV show Twin Peaks, you may remember this lodge as "The Great Northern" and the falls as "White Tail Falls" on the show.

This diner in nearby North Bend was a regular hangout for characters on Twin Peaks. A severe fire set by vandals destroyed the interior of the building only three days before we got there. The owner has said that he will rebuild it. It was known on the show as the "Double RR Diner."

The water at the base of the falls is freezing; my toes became numb within seconds of dipping them in.
