The "camel spider" is actually a type of scorpion. It's called a camel spider because it jumps up onto camels and injects its venom, which works as a local anesthetic. Then it eats away at the numbed flesh. It attacks people, cats and dogs also.  It runs extremely fast, jumps extremely high, is not afraid of humans, and has a bad temper. On Jason's first day at PSAB, he was chased by one as he walked to the chow hall.
